Dealing with those affected

  • Put emphasis on remaining strength; compensate for weaknesses; show respect.
  • Every dementia patient has faculties which he can and should use.
  • Accept, respect and tolerate: Cope with difficult emotions together; support, make-believe, a façade of normalcy, as an effort of self-help.
  • Honesty: Don’t make untenable promises.
  • Call family conferences: Accept help, agree on the financial burden sharing for later stages.
  • Maintain independence: Don’t eliminate too many tasks, reduce risks of failure.
  • Simplify tasks, reduce complexity of decisions / choices.
  • Structure daily life (Facilitates orientation)
  • Simplify the physical environment
