ADs Organizations

Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) is the international federation of Alzheimer associations throughout the world. It was established in 1980.It is the umbrella organization of Alzheimer associations around the world. It aims to help establish and strengthen Alzheimer associations throughout the world, and to raise global awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and all other causes of dementia.
Egypt is the only Arab country with established Alzheimer’s associations. The program “10/66 Dementia Research Group” was set up in 1998 to encourage active research collaboration between centers in different developing countries as well as between developed and developing countries.
Mental Health was selected by the World Health Organization as the theme for World Health Day 7 April 2001. Focusing on the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health, WHO is daring governments, health professionals and people to rise to the challenge posed by mental and brain disorders.
Unfortunately, Lebanon and the Arab world are in urgent need of public awareness. Stigma and discrimination have built walls of silence.
Nursing homes in Lebanon and throughout the Arab world are not Alzheimer’s oriented, neither in technology and equipment, nor in awareness of updated developments.
